Belly Casting Services
When I was 37 weeks pregnant, I did a cast of my pregnant belly. Over a year later I still marvel at it and I’m glad that I did it. My belly cast will last a lifetime, and I’ll always remember how much I enjoyed being pregnant. I want you to remember your pregnancy just as well as I remember mine. Belly casts are such a fun and beautiful way to remember this awesome and special time in your life. Whether this is your first baby or your last, the memory will always be special to you. Because I want your belly cast to be a lifetime keepsake, I will finish it to be strong and durable.
First I will come to your home and we will build up the cast in layers. Once it has dried, we’ll remove it from your belly and clean up. I’ll take your raw belly cast home with me for finish work. In order to reinforce and protect the form of your cast I will apply several thin layers of plaster, smooth and trim the surface, and apply a hardening surface prep over the plaster. I will usually be able to return your cast to you in a week, sometimes two depending on my schedule. I will return it to you ready for decoration and hanging.
There are so many ways to decorate your belly cast in order to commemorate your pregnancy. It’s even fun to have at your baby shower so friends and family can help decorate and write messages to the new baby. Just think…you could do this instead of embarrassing “let’s measure your belly” games! Other women choose to decorate it themselves, perhaps adding the baby’s name, date of birth, and details to the cast, even hand and foot prints. Some use fabric, ribbons, flowers, leaves, and other items to create a textured look. The best thing is that I return the cast to you as a blank canvas, you can do anything you want to the surface, or nothing at all. Part of the process includes discussing how you want to hang your cast, and we will talk about different materials you can use for decorating it once it’s finished.
The total fee for the service is $75.00. This covers the cost of materials, transport, and my time. I also ask that families who do a belly cast consider sending me some photographs of the finished product and a testimonial, or a story about how you decorated your cast and why. I will ask willing families to sign a release so that I can use these materials.
